Sister M. Lucy McGrath, IHM


SCRANTON, PA — Sister M. Lucy McGrath, 99, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Jan. 13 at Our Lady of Peace Residence here.

She entered the IHM congregation on February 2, 1932, and made her temporary profession of vows on August 2, 1934, and her final profession of vows on August 1, 1937. She received a bachelor of science in education from Marywood College and a master of fine arts from The Catholic University of America.

Sister Lucy served as a teacher in the Rockville Centre and Brooklyn Dioceses: at St. Ephrem Elementary School, Brooklyn (1956-59) and St. Mary’s High School, Manhasset (1959-71). She also taught at schools in Pennsylvania and Delaware and served as a private music and art instructor. From 2006 until the time of her death, Sister Lucy served as a prayer minister at Our Lady of Peace Residence here.

She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Kathleen and Marie, both of Syracuse, NY; a dear friend, Joyce Bohannon, of Dunmore, PA; and nieces and nephews. Her funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 17 at Our Lady of Peace Residence. Interment followed at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
