Sister Pascal Moffatt, O.P.

AMITYVILLE — Dominican Sister Pascal Moffatt, 96, a teacher in schools of the Brooklyn Diocese who later served for many years in the congregation’s ministry office here, died April 8.
Sister Pascal entered the Dominicans in 1936 and taught for 30 years at St. Thomas the Apostle School in Woodhaven, Queens (1937-67). She also served at St. Mary Star of the Sea, Brooklyn (1967-68).

When problems with her voice box prevented her from continuing in the classroom, she focused her energies on serving the congregation as secretary in the Ministry Office. When 30 sisters needing specialized nursing care were moved from the motherhouse here to Maria Regina Residence in Brentwood in 2003, she wrote a series of essays reflecting on religious life as a patient in a nursing home, documenting the opportunities to spread God’s word and love through the daily routine.

Morning Prayer and the Liturgy of the Word were followed by commendation and burial here on April 11. Because there could be no funeral Mass on Holy Saturday, a memorial Mass will be offered at a later date to be announced.
